Opposition Largesse Tears Ondo Labour Union Apart

African Examiner
15 July 2011

Palpable confusion has engulfed the leadership of the Ondo State workers union
following accusation of insincerity in the handling of the largesse released to it by
the sponsors of the worker’s work to rule actions.

A section of the leadership is accusing the other of insincerity, alleging that the
accused faction of the leadership had met the sponsors of their antagonism to the state government differently in Lagos and Osun states and failed to give accurate financial inducement that came with the visits.

It was gathered that crisis started when a section of the worker’s leadership kicked against the decision of the Labour Union to embark on a fresh strike action to press for the payment of the N14,000 minimum wage agreed with it by the government after its initial curious strike action.

This was occasioned by the agitation for the payment of N18,000 minimum wage
which the state government later promised it will commence payment from August.
