Lawmaker condemns move to put NNDC under N/Delta Affairs Ministry

WARRI — The call for  the transfer of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs was, yesterday, described as ill-motivated and self-serving.

Vanguard gathered that Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsdey Orubebe, had urged President Jonathan to transfer the supervisory role of the NDDC from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

Mr. Daniel Reyenieju, who represents Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, told Vanguard that such a call “is most unfortunate, particularly from a public officer of the rank of a Minister, who in the exercise of his official functions in the allocation of developmental projects and training of youths has remained inherently sectional along tribal lines, and espousing the wrong notion that the Niger Delta region is mono-ethnic.”

Reyenieju said the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs as presently constituted “has completely displayed such principle of winner-takes-all which has precipitated the alienation of most oil producing ethnic groups in the region.”
