INEC sends candidates’ lists to constituencies for screening

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has sent the lists of candidates submitted to it by the political parties to their respective constituencies for screening.

Its action in informed by the new provisions in Electoral Act 20101, which vest the power to screen candidates for elections on their constituencies. 

INEC National Commissioner (Legal Services), Philip Umeadi (Jnr) told reporters at the commission’s premises that the publication of the candidates’ list was merely in compliance with the political parties’ intention to field winners from their recent primaries

Umeadi said the clarification was to erase certain misinformation about the submission of list to INEC by political parties, which commenced in all the states of the federation.
