The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, at the weekend told Emirs and Chiefs at a meeting of Northern Nigerian traditional rulers that the menace of Boko Haram in the country must be brought to an end.

To that end, a security source told SaharaReporters the meeting sent a resolution to President Goodluck Jonathan in which it suggested the re-introduction of  an armed and fully recognized Native Police, as well as a constitutional role and responsibilities for traditional rulers.

The source said that the Sultan, who chaired the meeting, demanded an end to the militant group’s killings of innocent people, which is denting the image of Northern Muslims and Islam in general.
