BENIN CITY – The Commissioner of Police, Edo State, Mr. Umar Manko said yesterday that the police have launched a man hunt for the suspected criminals who escaped from a cell in the state police command headquarters, Benin City, last Thursday night.

Mr. Manko stated this while commenting on the reported escape of some suspected criminals detained in the maximum cell of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), at the Police headquarters, Benin City.

Although, the commissioner said the escapee suspects were nine in number, including one suspected hardened armed robber and eighty with bailable offences, insider sources hinted that they were more than 14 as the cell was left completely empty.

It further revealed that among them are two suspected kidnappers and a nine-man gang of alleged armed robbers.

Mr. Manko also disclosed that two policemen who were on duty during the cell break have been arrested and detained.
