Orubebe wants 5% of oil revenue for Niger Delta

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Godsday Orubebe, has said that five per cent of the country’s oil revenue from 2008 should be devoted to the development of the Niger Delta area.

The minister made the proposal in Abuja on Thursday when members of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Niger Delta visited the ministry, as part of its oversight functions.

He stressed the need to earmark five per cent of the oil revenue for the region’s development, saying that the funds allocated to the ministry in the 2012 budget were inadequate to implement the region’s developmental programmes.
