Press Release: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Imo State Chapter has received reports from highly reliable sources that the APGA government in Imo State has concluded plans to unleash thugs who will be dressed in PDP colours on November 7, 2011, with a view to causing mayhem and confusion during the
sitting of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that day.

November 7, 2011 has been fixed by the Tribunal as the date all the parties in the case will adopt their final briefs.

Undoubtedly, the objective of this planned action is to cause disaffection between our party, the public and particularly the Honourable Judges hearing the case.

Needless to say, the planned action by the APGA-led government in Imo State has the potentials of throwing the state into a conflagration of unprecedented dimension.

The Imo PDP therefore, wishes to use this forum to alert the good people of Imo State of this plot  to put our  beloved state to such a ridicule before the rest of the country.

It is not in the character of Imo people to indulge in unruly behaviour during post election litigations. The entire world watched with great admiration as the people of the state went through the protracted litigations of the last dispensation without resorting to any unwholesome behaviour. Not a single incident was recorded as to individuals or groups agitating either for or against any of the parties.

There is nothing in the on-going case that warrants any group or interest to take precipitate actions. The Imo PDP is aware that Imo people are watching the on-going case arising from its petition against the declaration of Chief Rochas Okorocha as winner of the last governorship election with  keen interest and total believe in the ability of the judiciary to dispense justice without let or hindrance.

It is on record that the party has gone about it’s petition with an utmost sense of decency and decorum. The Imo PDP believes in the rule of law and has implicit confidence in the Honourable Judges at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to dispense justice no matter whose ox is gored. The party expects the other side, this time the APGA-led administration in Imo State , to similarly submit itself to the rule of law and allow due process to dictate events.

Resort to invidious tactics and outright treachery as the one just unearthed is condemnable and stands condemnable by all well meaning citizens of Imo State .
