NDDC a monumental failure - Mark

Senate President, Senator David Mark, on Wednesday declared the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) a 'monumental failure'.

Mark gave the damning verdict after the confirmation of the chairman and other members nominated by President Goodluck Jonathan to serve in the board of the commission.

The Senate President gave the new board members six weeks to prove their mettle or be prepared to meet the same fate that befell the immediate past board of the commission.

Two nominees, Peter Ezeobi (Imo) and Osahon Imaro ( Edo ) were however rejected by the lawmakers.

The confirmation of the nominees followed the consideration and approval of the report of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta presented by the committee chairman, Senator James Manager.

Mark said, “The NDDC has been a failure up to this point in time and there is no point in mincing words at all.

“The individuals who have been put there have decided to make their own personal interest the priority of the commission. It is hoped that the new group would not do the same.
