Bayelsa Guber: PDP Clears Seven …Sylva Missing From List

The Tide News
11 November 2011

Barely eight days to November 19 governorship primaries in Bayelsa State, only seven aspirants have been cleared by the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to vie for the governorship ticket in the state.

Those who made the list of the first batch were Orufa Boloubo, Henry Dickson, Christopher Fullpower and Kalango Michael Youppele.

The last batch of the list of the aspirants released Wednesday and signed by PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Prof Rufai Alkali indicated that Francis Doukpala, Amaebi Ekiyegba, Korobido and Austin Febo were given the nod to vie for the ticket.

Conspicuously missing in the list of cleared aspirants was the name of the incumbent governor, Timipre Sylva who is yearning for a second term ticket. The embattled governor’s provisional clearance given him was reportedly withheld by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, following petitions by his opponents.

Meanwhile, Governor Sylva is billed to kick-off his campaign tomorrow on the provisional certificate given to him in Port Harcourt which sources say was enough for him to contest the primaries.

In another development, three persons were killed in different parts of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on Wednesday. This development may not be unconnected with the on-going cult war in the state.

Only four days ago, five persons were killed at a beer parlour at Eddpie. Political observers indicate that the unfortunate development had a political undertone and portended an undemocratic environment for the state.
