Bayelsa Guber Crisis Deepens As Jonathan Threatens State Chief Judge

Hopes that the crisis brewing between President Jonathan and Governor Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa state would be resolved any time soon were further dashed earlier yesterday when the president allegedly took it upon himself to  personally threaten the state Chief Judge who is set to hear Governor Sylva’s appeal
against his disqualification from contesting  the forthcoming gubernatorial polls on its merit.

This singular move clearly signals the final collapse of ethical principles and rule of law and trampling of democracy in Nigeria since what the president is clearly insisting on is the rule of men, not the rule of law.

Sources close to the state Chief Judge confided to this reporter that the president, livid with rage, ordered the Chief Judge not to hear the case and left  her in no doubt as  to what fate may befall her should she dare his presidential powers by showing an uncommon courage to hear the case despite his despotic and aberrant directive. The President is believed to be preempting the nation’s robust Judiciary, which is known to come to the rescue in matters like this.
