Follow the link and check out the press report – very instructive debate, but no mention of the relatively extreme development deficit of the region...and the need to fill that deficit soon.

Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan denied the allegation that his administration favoured the Niger Delta in the distribution of projects.

Jonathan comes from Bayelsa in Nigeria's Niger Delta. The denial was included in a statement issued by the President's special adviser on media and communication.

The statement says the projects listed were initiated by Mr.Jonathan's predecessor late Umaru Yar Adua, and were all contained in an appropriation act passed by Nigeria's National Assembly.

A newspaper report had carried a publication by the Bureau for Public Procurement which listed the Niger Delta projects totaling about 86% of project approval made between March and August 2011 by the Federal Executive Council Nigeria's highest administrative and decision making body in the executive arm.

The listing showed considerable disparity between projects approved for the Niger Delta and the rest of other parts of Nigeria.
