Benin — The Edo State command of the State Security Service (SSS) has arrested some suspected kidnappers that have been terrorizing the state.

The state's Director of SSS, Bello Tukur Bakore said the command is worried over the resurgence of criminal activities, especially kidnapping in the state.

Bakore, who said this yesterday while parading one John Andrew, who was said to have kidnapped a 70 year old woman recently, said Andrew and three others who are still at large abducted a 70 year old woman, but later released her when they discovered that she was sick. He said the suspect is already helping with the investigation. Other suspected kidnappers paraded are, Force Sambo, Godwin Sambo, Ohron Akpan. Others are Frank Ikhine, and Ehibogy Ogorchikwu.

The SSS boss said the suspects were paraded to assure the public that security operatives are determined to ensure safety of lives and property. He said the constraints facing the security operatives include lack of cooperation from victims and their families, who he said are quick to pay ransom demanded by abductors out of fear.

He said for a kidnapping to succeed, there must be an insider giving the kidnappers information.
