The restored publication of Federal Government allocations to the three tiers of government has generated interest among media analysts who say the action by the Ministry of Finance is an enhancement on the operation of Freedom of Information Act.

The objective of FoI, which is to generate knowledge through making public records and information more freely available, is to engender transparency in governance and equally provoke public debate that will shape policies better.
According to the media analysts, the quality of such debates especially in the media will assist to build a direction for the nation, direct policies, question profligacy by the leadership and ultimately check corruption.

The analysts, who commended Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, minister of finance, for the publication, state that “without waiting to receive requests by the media and the citizens to ascertain the states and local government areas’ monthly income from Federal Allocations, the minister already considered it necessary to avail the public with such information.”
