Norma’s Letter from Jos, 24 September 2011

Vegetable orders
Saturday, September 24, 2011
From: Norma, Zamani Farms, Jos

Hello customers,

First of all, let me thank all of our customers who volunteered to give us some advance payments against future order to help us get over the difficult patch we experienced during the recent violence in the Jos area. We really do appreciate your help, and it should really assist us in trying to get the farm back to a normal level of activity.

Apologies to those customers who might have experienced delays in their delivery on Thursday of this week. Our delivery people experienced a lot of delays on the road, as well as several checkpoints on the outskirts of Abuja, where they have to remove all of the boxes from the van so they can be checked. Obviously with about 40 boxes or so this takes a lot of time. I don’t know what we can do about the situation, but we are trying to think of how best to resolve the problem. We would welcome any suggestions that could improve our services.

During the past week we have been trying to get a lot of work done on the farm to make up for the long period when we couldn’t work due to the crisis. The rains are still with us, and recently we have been having them on a daily basis, some very heavy. We understand that heavy rains are still predicted for the Jos area, and floods are predicted as well. While this is not ideal for our vegetables, at least it ensures that there should be a good water supply for irrigation during the dry season (if we are still farming on the present site)....
