Two U.S. military leaders in Nigeria for stronger ties

TWO top officials of the United States (U.S.) military are in Nigeria on a four-day trip aimed at exploring areas for further strengthening the partnership between the militaries of both nations towards the security of Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea.

The two include the Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), Gen. Cater Ham and the Commander of the US 17th Air Force based in Germany, headquarters of AFRICOM, Maj.-Gen. Margaret Woodward.

Ham has already held meetings with the National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoeye Andrew Azazi, Acting Chief of Defence Staff, Vice Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim and the leadership of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its Peace and Security Directorate.

Woodward and her principal staff held talks with the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar and the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Tuesday in Abuja.
