Police Confirm Two Blasts in Jos

Two separate blasts have occurred at Anguwar-Rimi and Sarkin-Mangu areas of Jos North local government area of Plateau State.

But the Police Sunday said no life was lost and no injury recorded in the incidents.

The first explosion according to eyewitnesses occurred at about 7:30pm on Saturday night at Anguwar Rimi area leaving the windscreen of a taxi car shattered. The second explosion, other witnesses revealed occurred in the early hours of Sunday, at about 6:30 am at Sarkin Mangu.

A statement by the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Emmanuel Dipo Ayeni, said: "Incident report information received from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Angwuwar Rogo revealed that a minor blast from a suspected explosive device placed in an empty Groundnut oil can occurred at Anguwar Rimi at about 21:30. The blast caused no death or injury, but a taxi-cab parked nearby had its window glass shattered."

The statement revealed that "the blast occurred near the house of a prominent Islamic Scholar by name Sheikh Yahaya Jingir, an Izala sect leader in Jos," adding that his men have been dispatched to the scene.
