BENIN CITY- To ameliorate the plight of the oil bearing communities in the Niger Delta region, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has donated fishing nets and other fishing gears to selected co-operative societies in Edo State.

The Edo State NDDC Commissioner, Mr. Donald Igiede Omorodion who made the presentation to the beneficiaries in Benin City, said the gesture is part of NDDC master plan for the oil producing communities in the country.

According to him, the commission will not relent to bring succour to the communities and he advised them to be patient as their needs would gradually be looked into with time.

He, therefore, advised members of the benefiting co-operative societies to put the boats and fishing gears into good use.

Receiving the boat and fishing gears on behalf of IIlushi Ekoro Fish farmers multi purpose Co-Operative Society, Prince Pius Unuwucholah thanked the NDDC for the boat and fishing gears.

According to him, this goes to show that the plight of the oil communities which were hitherto undermined is now being given attention by the government.

Among those who witnessed the presentation ceremony are Chief Godwin Ukori, Mr. Victor Ogbebor and Mr. Romanus Woghiren, the Personal Assistant and Special Adviser to the NDDC commissioner.
