29 July 2011

President Goodluck Jonathan has again said he would not benefit from the
constitution amendment proposing a 6-year single term for president and the 36
governors of the federation.

The special adviser to the president (Media and Publicity) Dr Reuben Abati told
journalists at the white house, Abuja that the president will not benefit from the
constitutional amendment if it sails through at the National Assembly.

Dr Abati faulted opposition parties that have continued to criticize the proposed
amendment even when they have not seen the details of the bill. He advised
them to wait until the bill is drafted and sent to the National Assembly.

According to the presidential spokesman, the president has the right to
announce his vision for the country, which he has just done in the proposed
amendment.
