FG Recalls Envoys, May Appoint New Ones Soon - To Shut Down Some Missions

Daily Independent
25 July 2011

LagosNigeria's Ambassadors and High Commissioners are being recalled in cost cutting measures likely to lead to the retirement of some and the appointment of new ones to reflect current political realities.

Envoys posted to Commonwealth countries (Britain and its former colonies, for examples Canada and Australia) are called High Commissioners, those posted to non-Commonwealth countries (for examples Brazil and Japan) are called Ambassadors.

A source in Aso Rock informed Daily Independent on Monday that the envoys are being recalled after completing their tour of duty. A list of new nominees is being drawn up, which may reflect a leaner figure, as prescribed by the Presidential Advisory Council on International Relations (PACIR), headed by Akpode Clark, at its meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja last month.
