Tambuwal emerges Reps Speaker

 A ranking member of the House of Representatives from Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has emerged as the Speaker.

Tambuwal clinched 252 votes to beat his rival, Mulikat Adeola-Akande, from Oyo State, who had 90 votes.

Five members were absent while 13 abstained.

The election was conducted by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Aminu Maikasuwa.

Members erupted in jubilation immediately the votes for Tambuwal were announced.

Maikasuwa had to wait for the din to die down before counting Adeola-Akande‘s 90 votes.
