President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday held a three-hour closed-door meeting with leaders of the leading opposition parties in the country, saying it was part of his ongoing consultations with parties that have presence at the national level to “collectively run the Nigerian government.” The ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and five opposition parties were invited to the meeting which took place at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Abuja. The meeting had in attendance the President, Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, some presidential aides and chairmen of the invited parties along with four other officials of their respective parties.
The invited opposition parties invited to the meeting were Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). CPC however boycotted the event and the seats earmarked for its officials remained unoccupied while the meeting lasted.
