Nigeria ex-speaker, deputy accused of diverting loans worth more than $244M, plead not guilty: "

A top Nigerian politician and his deputy have pleaded not guilty to fresh charges that they diverted more than $244 million in bank loans.

Former House speaker Dimeji Bankole and his former deputy Usman Nafada appeared Monday at the Abuja Federal High Court over the charges from Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Court documents accuse Bankole and Nafada of conspiring to obtain loans totaling more than $244 million using the government’s account.
