The Federal Government is negotiating an out of court settlement with traditional rulers from the Niger Delta region who are demanding for the sum of N500 billion meant for the development of the environmental ravaged region.
In a suit instituted by the royal fathers, they had earlier told the court that infrastructural development in their communities had been stalled owing to the continued withholding of the said funds by government.
Specifically, His Royal Majesty, Eze Young Ogbona, leading 20 others from the oil producing areas, said the funds meant for disbursement to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) between 2001 and 2009 were withheld by the Federal Government since the tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo and that infrastructural development in their communities had been stalled owing to the continued withholding of the said funds by government.
