The sale of oil acreages by Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria Limited in Western Niger Delta has raised concerns in the minds of industry watchers.

One of the major concerns relates to the fact that the oil mogul may be trying to divert attention from the real issue of the consequences of the environmental degradation which they have caused as a result of their exploitative activities in the area.

It could also be argued that the oil magnet is clearly trying to avoid liability.

The company has opted to move into the deeper offshore where there would be less oversight so that they can pollute without having to contend with watchful local communities.
