A group, Access to Justice, has opposed the decision of the president of the court of appeal, Ayo Salami, to function as the presiding judge of the presidential elections tribunal.
The group also described Mr. Salami's participation in the determination of the petition of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) against the election of President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party as a mistake.
"The learned Justice should not at this time be sitting over any election tribunals until he has been cleared by the National Judicial Council (NJC) of allegations of judicial misconduct currently pending against him," the Executive Director of Access to Justice, Joseph Otteh, said.
Mr Otteh said since Mr Salami has been accused by former governors of Ekiti and Osun States of ill practices in gubernatorial disputes in those states, it would be imprudent for him to take part in any future electoral adjudication until he is declared fit by the NJC.
