Imo Guber: INEC decides Ohakim, Rochas fate today

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will meet with its
legal team today to decide on the next line of action on the controversial Imo
polls.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the electoral body appealed to the people of Imo
to remain calm, promising to “ensure the highest level of integrity and credibility
for the electoral process”

Part of the statement reads:

“In view of the difficulties experienced with the April 26, 2011 governorship and
state assembly election in Imo State, which made the Returning Officer to
declare the election inconclusive, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has consulted with its lawyers for advice on the next line of action.

“The Commission is scheduled to meet Friday, April 29, 2011 to take a final
decision.”

Reports say Gov. Ohakim was winning in 10 local governments while his rival
Rochas Okorocha was leading in 12 local governments when the INEC’s returning officer declared the election inconclusive.
