The Nigeria Police Force has deployed anti-terrorist squads and intelligence officers to prevent thuggery and violence during Tuesday’s (today) governorship elections.

The Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajayi, who disclosed this in a telephone interview in Abuja, said that the police had enough personnel to checkmate political thuggery, violence and other forms of electoral malpractices.

Ajayi in a telephone interview in Abuja explained that no government official, including state governors, was allowed to go around with security aides to polling booths under the guise of election monitoring.

“Any police officer found with such public official will be severely sanctioned; he will face disciplinary measures for disobeying the order of the Inspector-General of Police not to escort public officials to polling booths on election day,” he said.
