RIVERS State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored a total of 1,178,529 to emerge the winner of the governorship election in the State.
The Returning Officer and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt , Professor Joseph Ajienka announced this after the collation of the results from the 23 local government areas of the State yesterday.
Ajienka who certified Amaechi as the winner of the polls at about 4: 27pm, explained that out the 2,442,488 registered voters in the State, a total of 1,373,469 participated in Tuesday election, out of which 27,945 votes were voided.
He explained that 29 political parties contested the governorship election. Some of the results are; All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) came second with 112,528 votes, followed by the Action Congress of Nigeria whose candidate scored 60241 votes.
Accord Party had, 1216, All Nigeria Peoples Party, 3912, Hope Democratic Party 3893 and Labour Party 2250, Congress for Progressive Change 1900.
