Youth leader condemns MEND bomb threat

CALABAR - The Cross River/Akwa Ibom Youth Forum has condemned the threat by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) to bomb some cities in Nigeria.

The leader of the forum, Mr. Francis Effiong, told newsmen yesterday in Calabar that he wondered “why such threat should come now that the general election is almost at hand’’.

“Just few days to the general elections and some persons are talking of bombing strategic cities in Nigeria, that is very unfortunate,’’ he said.

The youth leader said that such threat was capable of damaging Nigeria’s reputation in the eyes of the international community.

“The whole world is waiting and watching us to see whether we can conduct a credible election in just a few weeks time. The world will not take us seriously if such act is perpetrated now,’’ Effiong said.
