Uyo — More than 2,500 members of a coalition of youth organisations from seven Niger Delta states yesterday led a demonstration to the Qua Iboe terminal operated by Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN) in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom state.
The youths were protesting the non-payment of compensation for oil spill which occurred at Idoho oil platform within the Qua Iboe oil fields from 1998 till date.
The insensitivity of MPN, the Nigerian unit of US energy firm ExxonMobil in flouting court judgments has become unbearable, they said, compelling them to explore other avenues of getting the oil firm to pay for damages suffered by the oil communities.
