It is now official. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Monday announced that it would adopt a different system for the conduct of the April general election.
In the elections held since 1999, voters were asked to leave the polling centres immediately after casting their votes – a situation that has been held responsible for the changing of figures.
Under the system to be adopted for next month’s elections, voters will be allowed to stay behind and witness the counting of votes and the announcement of the scores at the polling centres.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, when he made public the new accreditation and voting procedures for the polls while addressing civil society groups in Abuja yesterday.
