OWERRI-The federal government has assured Niger Deltans that the amnesty programme was on course. This came as the search for a long lasting solution to the socio-economic, political and cultural problems in the area lingers.
Minister of National Planning, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, made the government’s stand known in Owerri, during the presentation of the findings from the Niger Delta Citizen Report Card from 120 communities.
Usman, who was represented by the Acting Director, International Cooperation of the National Planning Commission, Mr. Bassey O. Akpannyung, also reasoned that the developmental issues of the region should be addressed with the urgency it deserved.
“While it is of necessity that the developmental issues of the region be addressed with the urgency it deserves, it is instructive to mention that development cannot happen without proper planning,” Dr. Usman said.
