‘Amnesty programme needs more work’
Michael Johnny seeks more official commitment to the Delta

Amnesty programme for ex-militants

The amnesty programme is a welcome development. The administrative aspect is very poor and they need to do something about it. It is not by training those boys and giving them money and all that. There are other things you can do for them. There are still some who are still interested in going back to school. You can enrol them in school and from there they will learn how to make money for themselves. You can also talk to oil companies to train them and make them their staff and from there poverty will be reduced. Timi Alaibe tried; but this man, Kingsley Kuku, I do not trust him because he is like Tompolo who never wanted the people to benefit. If people are doing their work with the fear of God, things will be going smoothly. I still want to advise the boys to patient because I see a bright future.

Disagreement with Kingsley Kuku

Kingsley Kuku has been part of the Niger Delta struggle since the beginning. We are both strong men in the Niger Delta struggle, but because of the bad people around him I know he cannot do much. In most cases, they will end up fighting for their selfish interest. Even if Kuku meant well, going by the fact that he had been with Alaibe, the sycophants around him will not let him succeed and this is what you expect when people saddled with such responsibilities think of themselves first at the expense of the people they are appointed or elected to serve.
