Shell to Shut 225,000bpd Bonga Field

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) is to shut the Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel of its 225,000 barrels per day Bonga deepwater field later this month, THISDAY has learnt.

This will take off a significant chunk from Nigeria's export, which currently stands at 2.4mbpd.

According to investigations, the planned shut-down which will last for four weeks, will be the first of the FPSO's five-yearly mandatory turnaround maintenance.

Discovered in 1993 in 120 kilometres offshore Nigeria, with a lifespan of 20 years, Bonga became operational in 2004 and hit first oil in November 2005.
