The case against Nigerian terror-accused Henry Okah was remanded until April 18 at the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Magistrate Hein Louw said Okah was ill and that he was still in custody.
"He [Okah] wasn’t there this morning because he's battling with his back at the moment," Okah's lawyer Rudi Krause told the Mail & Guardian.
Okah was arrested in October 2010 in connection with twin explosions in Abuja , Nigeria , that killed 12 people and injured 36 during the country's Independence Day celebrations.
Since his arrest Okah has indicated that he needs an operation on his spine, which the state has agreed to as long as it is conducted under police guard.
