INEC has registered 63.9 million eligible voters - Jega

THE chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, on Thursday, said the commission has registered 63,981,460 eligible Nigerians during the just concluded voter registration, ahead of the April general election.

Professor Jega made the disclosure in Abuja, while delivering the keynote address at the Nigeria Pre-Election Colloquium, with the theme: “Nigeria 2011 Elections: Building Confidence, Enhancing Credibility.”

The INEC boss, who said the figure was below the initial expection of 70 million voters, based on the 2006 population census figures, added that the commission was overwhelmed by the turnout of eligible voters during the exercise.
