An aide to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and other former government officials got $21million bribe from United States Company Halliburton, the Senate was told yesterday.
Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mohammed Adoke (SAN), who stated this yesterday promised to make the full report of investigation into the $180 million Halliburton scandal available to the lawmakers.
“A bribe of $180million dollars was allegedly distributed by the US company to Nigerian government officials to influence the award of a Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) contract in Nigeria .
Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s aide Bodunde Adeyanju is currently standing trial over the scandal.
Adoke spoke when he met with the members of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters headed by Senator Umar Dahiru. He went before the committee to defend his ministry’s 2011 budget.
A member of the committee Senator Ikechukwu Obiorah called for public hearing on the Halliburton scandal with the view to ascertaining the truth of the scandal.
