Bishops lament dearth of infrastructure

Catholic Bishops in the Niger Delta, drawn from Calabar, Ogoja, Uyo, Ikot-Ekpene, Port Harcourt, Bomadi and Warri, have deplored the dearth of infrastructure in the region.

The clerics, under the aegis of Niger Delta Catholic Bishops’ Forum (NDCBF), regretted that the discovery of oil and gas has not brought development to the region.

The forum, they said, was in response to the mandate given to them by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN).

In a statement by Archbishop Joseph Ukpo and Rev. Edward Obi, Chairman and Secretary-General, the forum hailed some states for providing education, healthcare and infrastructural facilities.

The Catholic clerics said though there is peace in the region, it should not be misconstrued for sustainable peace if injustices are not addressed.
