North Central Governors to Combat Boko Haram, Insecurity

The governors of the North Central geo-political zone of the country and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) otherwise known as the Group six (G-6) has agreed on several security initiatives poised to tackle emerging security challenges within the zone, especially those posed by the Boko Haram Islamic Sect and ethno-religious conflicts.

The group which comprises Niger, Kogi, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Benue and FCT in a communiqué adopted after the security meeting in Abuja Thursday also agreed to embrace the use of vigilante groups in internal security operations across the country.

In a communiqué adopted and signed at the end of the summit, the G-6 with the entrance of Plateau state into the fold was officially transformed to G-7 and amongst other things embraced the use of vigilante groups and active involvement of traditional rulers in resolving the internal security challenges in the region.
