Smarting from endless accusations of corruption and poor performance induced by wrangling within past managements of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), its Managing Director, Dr. Christian Oboh, has assured that the commission would work hard to sustain public confidence and improve the lot of the Niger Delta region.

He said the NDDC, under his watch would render transparent and quality service to the people of the region. Dr. Oboh made the pledge in Port Harcourt when the leadership of the Rivers State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists paid him a courtesy call in his office.

He told journalists that the new NDDC management would not play loose with funds at its disposal.“The money appropriated for NDDC is not for individual pockets. We can assure you that we will not disappoint.”
The NDDC boss said the commission had commenced payment of all contractors, who had shown commitment in projects execution.

“We have started paying contractors. Let me use this medium to tell contractors, who we are owing and who are willing to work, to come but we will only pay those who are willing to perform.” Dr, Oboh told the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) state officials that the NDDC was ready to partner with the NUJ in delivering its mandate and urged the media not to be hasty on issues about the commission.

He assured journalists of unhindered access to information on the commission’s activities, adding that “with the passage of the Freedom of Information Bill, anything that you want to know about us in the NDDC, we are obliged to give you.”

Dr. Oboh reminded reporters that with their professional experiences on objectivity and fairness, it was important that they heard the other side of the story. Earlier, the state Chairman of the NUJ, Mr. Opaka Dokubo, commended, “the Press-friendly disposition” of the new NDDC Board and assured that the NUJ was willing to work with it for the overall interest of the region.
