Female Niger Delta activist, Ms Annkio Briggs, has described as insensitive the call by the Northern governors for a review of the revenue allocation formula and the laws on ownership of oil blocks so that more revenue can accrue to the region.
The governors had during the inauguration of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation Advisory Council on Thursday in Abuja demanded that all revenue from oil blocks outside the 200 kilometres of the country’s continental shelf be shared as a commonwealth.
Niger State Governor, who doubles as chairman of the 19 Northern Governors Forum, Dr Babangida Aliyu, faulted a situation where only a few states currently share the proceeds from oil.
Speaking in an interview with Sunday Sun, Briggs said the northern states were already getting more from the federal allocation as they had more local government areas than other parts of the country put together.
