Foremost economist, Prof Sam Aluko is dead

Nigeria’s foremost economist, Prof. Sam Aluko is dead. He died ,Tuesday, at the age of 83 in a London hospital, in the United Kingdom.

His views on the nation’s economy are internationally respected.

Although he was criticised for serving under late Gen. Sani Abacha as Chairman, National Economic Intelligence, Aluko in a recent interview before his death, said he had no regrets serving late Abacha as economic adviser.

” Our economy is bad and this is because we have corrupt leadership. The CBN reform agenda has worsened our economy. The Federal Government policy on free market, exchange rate, private sector-led economy and free trade have killed our economy. Nigeria’s economy is in shambles. The CBN has added more to the injuries. ”
