Port Reforms - FG Orders 48 Hours Clearance

The Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala yesterday handed down a 48 hours clearance directive to the new monitoring committee it constituted to drive the ongoing reforms at the nation's ports.

The 17 member committee which was drawn from both the public and the private sectors, has one week to 12 months to effect the order.

Top on the reforms include, reducing the number of agencies operating at the ports which was carried out recently, developing operational guideline for shipping line operator, ensuring a 24 hours shift of some of the agencies that need to be working round the clock to make the ports work efficiently, develop a regulatory body for port operation, work on the issue of high cost of demurrage for the private sector among other terms of reference.
