FG Unveils Single Tax Platform for Importers

Leadership (Abuja)
4 November 2011

Importers are set to enjoy quick clearance of their goods from Nigerian ports with the Nigeria Customs Services (NCS) and the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) closing rank on a unified platform for tariff administration.

By this new arrangement, importers will no longer be required to spend time clearing with the NCS and FIRS separately, as both government agencies would be able to access data on tariffs paid by importers simultaneously.

It will be recalled that in a bid to reduce the time frame for clearing goods at the ports, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Finance Minister, had earlier ordered some agencies out of the ports, while plans are also underway to ensure the ports run 24 hours.
