Three local councils in Delta state that will benefit from the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs) Conditional Grants Scheme (CGS) have been
directed topay their counterpart fund of N40 million each within two weeks.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the affected local government
councils were those chosen for the pilot edition of the scheme.
The directive was given Monday in Asaba by Mr Ovuozorie Macualey, Secretary
tothe Delta Government (SSG) at the inauguration of the state committee on the
implementation of the scheme in the local governments.
The local government councils are Ukwuani, Ethiope West and Warri South
Macauley said that the scaling up of the CGS to local government areas was an
urgent need and unique initiative to empower local governments to attain the
MDGs in a sustainable manner.
