Bayelsa 2012 - Violence Threatens Poll

Bayelsa is bonded by neighbouring Rivers and Delta states and empty up in the Atlantic Ocean, the people of the state are predominantly fishermen, farmers as the state have no industry or company of its own to boost employment since creation. Very hospitable Nigerians but are prone to violence when angered by mistake or by marginalization as the case may be.

The state according to the former Governor, Chief Diepreye Solomon Alamieyeseigha once said " in Bayelsa State, we have no industries; the only industry we have is politics that breeds all class of people joining the game of politics in a state as the people often results to violence to select or elect their political leaders during elections.

The state is the home country of Mr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other top personalities in the country and a major stakeholder in the oil sector.

The state had witnessed series of killings as voters prepare to choose their political leaders in the 2012 polls as over nine aspirants had emerged under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, excluding the incumbent Governor Chief Timipre Sylva, who had insisted that he is still in the race, other pockets of aspirants are warming up for the battle in other platform.
