The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) on Wednesday advised the federal government to expand and refurbish the refineries, before it could consider removing subsidy on petroleum products. Babatunde Ogun, PENGASSAN president, who suggested, also called for the dredging of the Niger-Delta waterways, as part of the conditions that should be met before the deregulation of the oil sector.

“Our position is that government must ensure that dredging is done, refineries are expanded and refurbished before the removal of the oil subsidy. “Anytime they implement the subsidy policy without meeting those conditions that we have highlighted, we are going to shut down the entire oil and gas sector,” Mr Ogun said.
