SUNNY OFEHE: How I was accused of terrorism in Holland

After Farouk AbdulMultallab, in the United States and Henry Okah in South Africa, Sunny Ofehe is the third Nigerian arrested and charged with terrorism. Curiously, he is neither a blood-thirsty extremist nor a gun-totting militant. When he was arrested, Dutch police accused him of human trafficking. Last week, the charge sheet changed to terrorism following wire-tapped conversations on how oil pipelines are bombed.

Beyond fraternity with militant figures in the Niger Delta, Ofehe was the man who went to the camp of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) with Lara Lee, the ‘dare-devil’ activist, who led the ill-fated flotilla from Turkey to Gaza that ended in the tragic death of nine people. The Nigerian, locked in a running battle with Shell oil giant, spoke in Holland.
