Governors of the South-South geopolitical zone have resolved to enact laws that will checkmate environmental degradation and tackle oil pollution in the region.

The governors contended that the laws would critically deal with issues of illegal refineries, which they said had further worsened environmental pollution and degradation across the oil producing states.

In a four-paragraph communiqué issued at the end of the South-South governors’ summit hosted by the Bayelsa State governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, in Yenagoa, the governors expressed concern over increasing dangers of environmental challenges in the Niger Delta.
