Reps protest N190,000 tax from salaries

MEMBERS of the House of Representatives yesterday rose from long hours of executive session with serious criticism over the N190,000 tax being deducted from their monthly salaries each. Members, who received N900,000 each monthly as salaries in the last dispensation, expressed concern that what they are receiving now is far less, yet N190,000 is being deducted from members as monthly taxations.

They  went to executive session yesterday to express their concern to the leadership who they believe would help them sort out the matter with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), the agency saddled with the responsibility of fixing taxes.

Since the inauguration of the House on June 6 this year, they have found it difficult to cope with the situation, especially when their quarterly allowances were cut down to N15 million from N42 million.
